"FOSS Forward" -- workshop held in Pondy on 1st March 2011

"FOSS Forward", 1-day workshop on FOSS concepts and BOSS features & implementations was held in Hotel Annamalai, Puducherry on 1st March 2011. It was followed by a 1-day hands-on session for limited members on 2nd March 2011, at Rajiv Gandhi Inst of Engg & Tech, Puducherry.

"FOSS Forward", series of 1-day workshop-cum-demo sessions are being organized by CDAC BOSS Support centres in major cities  in India.

The first workshop in this series was organized on Tuesday, 1st March 2011 by CDAC Chennai and BOSS Support Centre, Puducherry, with support from Dept. of IT, Govt. of Puduchery, at Hotel Annamalai, Puducherry.

Inaugurating the proceedings, Thiru M.O.H.F. Shajahan, Hon'ble Minister for PWD & IT, Govt. of Puducherry, pointed out the state govt's efforts to leap frog using IT and ICT to achieve development, and pointed out the need for cost-effective solutions. Thiru Khannaji, Director & Special Secretary, Dept. of IT, Govt. of Puducherry, wished the workshop and FOSS/BOSS implementation all success. Dr. Vijayakrishna Rapaka, Principal, Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering and Technology (RGCET), Puducherry, explained how they have implemented FOSS tools in their institution.

The workshop was attended by  government officials, industry users and academicians, and included presentations on Introduction to FOSS, NRCFOSS/BOSS activities, BOSS 4.0 and its features, and a variety of applications. (see agenda)

 

On 2nd March 2011, a hands-on training session was conducted at Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering & Technology, Puducherry.
